What to expect?

As your doula I will provide information, compassion, and comfort, during your pregnancy, labor and birth. I bring over 10 years of experience, knowledge, intuition and an unconditional love and acceptance for all women. I'm not able to work miracles, but I will always listen to you, and help you identify your various options. I can not tell you what to do, but I will always discuss the steps before you. I can help you find your inner strength and the voice to communicate your wishes. I am there to support you and your partner during and after the birth of your child. This time will most likely be one of the most important and memorable experiences of your life. This is truly a time of celebration and a time for you to enjoy your birth!
Definition of a Doula
The word doula originates from an ancient Greek word meaning "a woman who serves"; though today the term is used as a title for an experienced childbirth professional trained in providing physical, emotional, educational and spiritual support before, during and after childbirth. Doulas provide support to the expecting mother and family to help you find your own voice and make informed decisions that are best for you, your baby and your family. 
Results
Numerous studies have shown that the presence of a doula during labor and birth results in:
  • 31% decrease in the use of Pitocin
  • 28% decrease in the risk of C-section
  • 12% increase in the likelihood of a spontaneous vaginal birth
  • 9% decrease in the use of any medications for pain relief
  • 14% decrease in the risk of newborns being admitted to a special care nursery
  • 34% decrease in the risk of being dissatisfied with the birth experience
Parents who receive continuous support such as that of a doula tend to:
  • Feel more secure and cared for
  • Are more successful in adapting to new family dynamics

My Doula Philosophy​​
  • I have the utmost respect for the pure, organic power of women to birth their babies in whatever way their motherly intuition guides them. 
  • I believe that labor and birth are events that should strengthen the permanent relationships in the woman's life. Therefore it is always my goal to support and encourage the role of the fathers, partners, families and other persons loved by the laboring mother.
  • I believe in informed consent and will willingly provide evidence-based, non-biased information regarding risks and benefits of any labor or birth procedures so mothers may make informed decisions which they feel is right for them.
  • I commit to supporting all variations of birth options, as each woman, each child, and each birth is unique and all have different needs.

I reached out to Amanda early on in my pregnancy to learn more about her doula services. I knew I wanted a homebirth but that wasn’t feasible for my husband and I at the time, so I knew I needed the best support possible in order to have an unmedicated hospital birth. From the second I met Amanda, I knew she was going to be the perfect addition to our birth team. She greeted me with a hug and her warm, gentle personality was exactly what I had been searching for. Amanda always made me feel like my concerns/feelings were valid and heard and she was ready to answer any of my questions along the way. After finally choosing to transfer care from my OBGYN to a midwife for a homebirth, Amanda helped me switch gears into preparing mentally and physically to have my baby at home. She is so knowledgeable and provides you with evidence based information and helps talk you through all of your options before you make any decisions. During our birth, she was the perfect combination of support and encouraging, but also so gentle and comforting at the same time. Not only did she support me during labor, but she was so reassuring and comforting to my husband who wasn’t always sure how to help comfort me. Where to start? From the day we met Amanda we knew our search was over! She was always (and still are) super kind, present, loving, always made us feel important and gave us all the research/ knowledge for any questions we had throughout the whole process (pre/pos natal). It was truly amazing to work with Amanda on my labor. Choosing her to be my doula was one of the best decisions that I've made that lead to a very uneventful and amazing labor experience. She is so encouraging, uplifting, and importantly, so knowledgeable about birth. I want to point out at least three things that really makes her extraordinary: 1) She puts in the time prior to the birth in preparing me and educating me about labor, which really well prepared my body physically and mentally for the labor; 2) She is always responsive to my questions and provide most useful resources and information; 3) On the day of labor, she is willing to work with me and showed up when I needed her instead of watch the clock/sign of active labor. A blessing! That’s what my husband and I keep saying about Amanda. We prayed about finding the right doula for our family and God answered our prayers. Amanda has the kindest soul and supported us every step of the way in our first pregnancy with twins! Because of covid-19 she was unable to be in the hospital with us. However, she was still there in the wee hours of the night over the phone helping/supporting our labor and delivery. She came to our house and helped us labor through many contractions until it was time to go to the hospital. She even drove to the hospital to make sure we got there safely. After the twins were born she was still in contact and answered right away. She encapsulated our two placenta into pills. Game changer here. This has helped with milk supply, post partum recovery and emotions. We are 4 months post partum and she is still there for us! We are forever grateful for Amanda. I found Amanda on a google search and right from the start I knew she was the Doula for me. Just speaking with her helped me feel more at ease, she has definitely found her calling. Amanda attended my twin birth, I felt so much support and love from her. With her massage and oil techniques I was able to get to nine centimeters with very little pain. I wish I had her for my previous births. I highly recommend her for both Doula and placenta encapsulation services. I read that postpartum depressions was very common after a twin birth so I sure to take my capsules everyday. I really think it helped me bounce back so much faster. I had no depression and was able to go back to work after only 8 weeks.

When I was first considering a natural home birth, I reached out to her and she immediately jumped on the phone with me to answer allllll my questions. We were on the phone for over an hour. After that, I hired her as my doula because of how much I liked her. Throughout my pregnancy, she was there for me whenever I needed her or had questions. During my natural home birth, she comforted me and assured me every step of the way. She also guided my husband on how to better help me during the process. I couldn’t have done it without her. She also encapsulated my placenta and it made my postpartum recovery SO much easier. This is my fifth baby and I’m so sad I didn’t do this sooner!
